Carved wood signs offer great durability as well as a beautiful wood grain look that makes them fit for numerous applications. We offer many different types of wood species, from softwoods to hardwoods.  All wood options are a great choice esthetically; however, the various species differ in their ability to resist elemental and natural forces of decay. We offer options depending on your budget. We will always highly recommend hardwood or cedar (hardy softwood) due to its durability and longevity. As with any purchase, proper care and maintenance is crucial to maintain your investment.

Please review the sign care page for proper maintenance instructions.

Southern Yellow Pine

As its name implies, pine has yellow-to-white undertones. It is known as a lightweight softwood meaning it is less dense, making it easier to cut. However, this also means it may crack and split easier. This is a great budget-friendly choice. Depending on care and yearly/seasonal maintenance the longevity is roughly 7-10 years.

Red or White Cedar

These are both considered softwoods. At first glance, it may be difficult to spot the differences between northern white cedar and western red cedar.  Both have a similar face grain and slight variant in color, as the name implies, red cedar has a slightly more red woodgrain while white cedar has white undertones. Both offer many benefits, including strength, durability, weather, rot and insect resistance. You can't go wrong with either option. Depending on care and yearly/seasonal maintenance the longevity is roughly 15+ years.

White Oak

White Oak is also a dense hardwood, also offering stronger, water resistant protection ultimately resulting in resistance to cracking and decay. Also a beautiful light color and smooth, clean woodgrain. Fun fact, the wood cells of white oak trees contain a plastic-like substance called tyloses that makes the durable wood waterproof which is why it is popular for use in whiskey barrels, buckets, and ships. This amazing species offers extreme longevity, lasting up to a lifetime if properly cared for.
